Meryl Cassidy is Executive Director of Response Crisis Center and an Assistant Professor at Suffolk Community College in the Human Service Program. She has been a professional social worker for 35+ years and has worked in a variety of settings and with diverse populations. For the past twelve years of her career, she has focused on crisis intervention and suicide prevention, intervention and postvention. In addition to managing the operations of Suffolk County’s only 24/7 crisis center devoted to suicide prevention, she provides professional trainings and consultation for human service professionals and community members on a broad range of topics, including: crisis theory, communication and listening skills, NSSI, suicide risk assessment, safety planning, compassion fatigue, and many others. She is a certified ASIST trainer, a Sources of Strength trainer, and a Lifeline’s Postvention trainer.
Meryl is the Co-Chair of the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Long Island and the Co-Chair of the Mental Health Subcommittee of the Division of Community Mental Hygiene for Suffolk County, and is now proud to serve on the NASCOD board. In 2015, she received the Excellence in Suicide Prevention Award from the Suicide Prevention Center of New York State. Meryl prides herself on her ability to collaborate with others and to innovate in order to meet the growing needs of the community.
